Bringing It All Together

A

t first glance, it might appear that Brandon Lancaster's career ambitions might be diametrically opposed.

"I want to try to play Division 1 college tennis and become a pro tennis player," says the 14-year-old player out of Louisville, Kentucky. "If I don't make it as a tennis player, I'd like to become an engineer."

Tennis player or engineer? But when you think about it, just like an engineer analyzes structure and figures out complex problems, a tennis player analyzes points and games, figures out his opponent and combines both art and science for a win.

Tennis, however, does offer Brandon something engineering does not.

"I love the feeling you get when you hit a really good shot," he admits.

Brandon first began learning the game when he was just three-years-old, taught by his father and current coach, Kerry Lancaster, head coach at Saint Xavier High School in Louisville.

Working with his dad, Brandon has learned a lot about discipline and flexibility. He practices two or three hours a day, and tries to make the most of his court time in order to improve his game. He also stays open to making changes to his game over the years so he can continue to develop. Throughout his experiences as a tennis player, he has been fortunate enough to avoid any serious injuries, so he has been able to continue to move his game forward.

"I believe you can achieve anything with hard work," says BrandonWhile Brandon enjoys competing on the court, he also enjoys playing other sports with friends.

With that enthusiastic attitude, coupled with Brandon's skills and hard work, he will continue to have a bright future in tennis. Or even engineering.
