Our inaugural Academy Program to be featured is the Windward Tennis Academy. .

Windward Tennis Academy is located at the Windward Lake Club in Alpharetta, GA. The Tennis Director/Owner is Cannon Campbell, a true junior coach with a vision of developing the finest junior tennis players in the country. Cannon competed as a nationally ranked junior Cannon competed as a nationally ranked junior throughout the south and the country and has now committed to training elite junior tennis players. As a player Cannon was known as ferocious and a true competitor every time he stepped on the court. Cannon is USPTA P-1 and has 19 years of coaching experience.

Windward Academy employs 11 teaching professionals to coach the various students. Each of the 11 instructors has a unique tennis background, allowing him or her to bring different teaching methods to the academy. The directing staff of Windward is some of the most accomplished coaches in the southeast. Will Wright, the Academy Head Professional grew up in London, England and played for Jacksonville State. Some travel up to 150 miles a day just to be a part of Windward Academy. Will is a USPTR certified coach and spent eight years coaching juniors in Spain, England and the US. Will has been the Davis Cup coach for the state of Georgia. Will’s players have won titles from National Championships to State Championships. Marcus Rutsche, Academy Head Professional is from Sydney Australia and was a member of their talent identification staff, and most recently has been the touring coach for WTA player Kat Bailey. No matter which staff member you are talking to, their biggest goal is to build winners on and off the court. Kate Fuler Grass Courts

Windward Academy has over 250 junior players enrolled, aging from 6 to 18. These players come from all across the southeast to train at Windward. Some travel up to 150 miles a day just to be a part of Windward Academy. The Windward Academy is broken down into five different levels. These levels range from the Academy Level which consists of younger players who focus on State Level 4 and 5 tournaments all the way to the Elite Level which is made up players who are ranked nationally and in the Southern section.

The players who are in the Academy Level spend between 6-10 hours on court per week, while the older players in the Elite Level spend anywhere from 15-30 hours on court each week. Now that is commitment!

The success of players from Windward Academy is seen across the country. Most recently, Kate Fuller, ranked 15th in the country and 185 in the world, received a scholarship to play for the University of Georgia. BIG TIME COLLEGE TENNIS

Other top players at Windward Academy include Patrick Sklenka, Hannah King, Lindsey Hodge and Laura Patterson. One of Windward’s little guys Abhin Sharma has won the last two designated events in the boys 12…. Wow…. The players keep coming…. Windward Academy has so many top players that one can’t name them all, but their success does not go unnoticed. With the great programs in place at Windward as well as the devoted staff, many top players will continue to be produced and developed in Alpharetta, Georgia.
